Fairy one to note in maiden hurdle

Eight races and very moderate horses do not make Ballinrobe the most appetising of programmes this evening.

Fairy one to note in maiden hurdle

The hopeful nap vote falls on Eoin Doyle's Indian Fairy in the Ladies' Day At Ballinrobe Maiden Hurdle.

To say that she caught the eye at Clonmel on her latest appearance would be something of an understatement.

The six-year-old went off an unconsidered 33-1 shot, but performed far better than her odds indicated she would in finishing third behind Hell Cat Maggie and Steel King.

The selection was never put in the race and was a remote ninth turning for home. But Indian Fairy stayed on strongly in the straight, with her rider virtually sitting motionless, and was doing all her best work at the end of the extended two miles.

The display wasn't lost on the stewards, who suspended rider, Donagh Meyler, for 21 days and ordered him to forfeit his fee.

Meyler is back on board now and Indian Fairy gets the vote over Oscar Vespasian, who is rather hit and miss, but did come home strongly when just failing to reel in hot pot Smiler at Downpatrick.

Denis Hogan's San Gabrial can land the Mulholland Bookmakers' Maiden Hurdle. He was in action just three days ago at Gowran Park, fourth behind Polished Rock in a conditions hurdle, and this is much easier.

Joanna Morgan's Xsquared may be capable of defying top weight in the John Madden And Sons Handicap Hurdle.

He's been running well enough on the flat of late and the last time was seen over flights was when winning on this track in July of last year.
