Bonzo Bing’s turn has come

Veteran trainer Bill Harney can enjoy a turn with Bonzo Bing in the Lisronagh Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel this afternoon.

Bonzo Bing’s turn has come

The selection ran well enough to be placed in two bumpers, before having his attentions turned to jumping at Punchestown 15 days ago.

Bonzo Bing was outpaced at a vital stage in that contest and then guessing at the second last was no help.

But his jumping overall was good and there was plenty to admire in the way he stayed on in the closing stages to finish third behind Dromnea and Blow The Doors Off.

You’d imagine the six-year-old would be suited by further than today’s extended two miles, and the Punchestown form is |undoubtedly ordinary, but he still rates the nap in this league.

The totally frustrating Gordon Elliott-trained Lord Scoundrel can finally get it right in the Bumper.

His record is four seconds in as many runs and that is clearly far from encouraging. Lord Scoundrel’s latest outing saw him fail to get to grips with Charlie Swan’s Ballagh at Navan, going under by three parts of a length.

The fact that it was another nine and a half lengths back to the third offers hope, however, so Elliott’s charge is entitled to the benefit of the doubt.

The Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden Hurdle is a poor affair and, perhaps, Henry de Bromhead’s Sizing Coal will provide the answer.

He was a bit disappointing when only fourth to Don Poli at Thurles in late January, but dropping back two furlongs in trip might work to his advantage.

Avondhu Lady, successful over fences at Naas last time, is the hopeful choice to defy top weight in the Carrick-On-Suir Mares’ Handicap hurdle, competing off a mark 20lbs below her current rating as a chaser.
