Hennessy date for Lyreen Legend

RSA runner-up Lyreen Legend is on course for the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown on February 9.

Hennessy date for Lyreen Legend

Dessie Hughes’ seven-year-old had his comeback delayed this season due to a small setback but he ran a fine race when fifth in the Lexus, beaten just over eight lengths by Bobs Worth.

Hughes expects some improvement from that effort and sees the fact he finished in front of his RSA conqueror Lord Windermere in the Lexus as a positive.

“He’ll go for the Hennessy next,” said Hughes.

“It was a good run first time out in a race as good as that. He wasn’t beaten that far at all and hopefully, with that under his belt, he’ll finish even closer in the Hennessy.

“You’d like to think that he would be able to improve after his first run and he’ll probably improve after his second run, too.

“It was nice to see him turn the tables on Lord Windermere and he’d already had a run so that bodes well.

“He just had a little setback at the end of the summer and it might turn out to be a good thing because come the spring he’ll be fresher than most.”
