De Bromhead: Europe ‘in mad form’

Henry de Bromhead reports Sizing Europe to be in sensational form as his stable star bids to repeat last year’s victory in the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown on December 27.

De Bromhead: Europe ‘in mad form’

The Co Waterford trainer is looking forward to the 11-year-old meeting talented younger opposition in the Grade One feature over two miles and one furlong.

“He’s in mad form. I couldn’t believe it the other day. The boys were having trouble holding him,” de Bromhead said yesterday.

“He’s in some form and I’m really looking forward to Christmas with him.

“You just wouldn’t believe he was 11 when you saw him at home – he’s like a two-year-old. I’m looking forward to taking on some of these younger guys and seeing how the pensioner gets on against them.”

De Bromhead is looking to give Sizing Gold a second run over fences in the Woodlands Park 100 Club Novice Chase at Naas on January 18.

The six-year-old will step up to three miles in the Grade Two contest following his smooth success in a two and a half mile beginners chase at Navan on Sunday.

“It was a very nice performance. We were delighted with him and he’s been great since.

Sizing Gold holds an entry in the Topaz Novice Chase at Leopardstown on December 29, but with de Bromhead ruling him out of that Grade One race over three miles, the trainer is set to be represented by Sizing Rio.

The trainer believes the extra distance will suit Sizing Rio, who was putting in his best work at the finish when fourth to Don Cossack in the Drinmore Novice Chase over two and a half miles at Fairyhouse at the beginning of the month.
