Somethingwonderful poised to follow up

Dessie Hughes’ Somethingwonderful is the nap choice in a fascinating little four-runner INH Stallion Owners’ EBF Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse this afternoon.

Somethingwonderful poised to follow up

Essentially the selection was a bit disappointing in bumpers, winning one from three, but was always going to come into his own over jumps and made a reasonable start at Punchestown in a maiden last month.

The selection was heavily backed and did the business well enough to cope with Park Ranger to the tune of a snug length and three parts.

That was an ordinary contest, but Somethingwonderful can only improve for the experience, as well as a much softer surface and stepping up half a mile in trip.

The ex-French Alelchi Alois made a satisfactory debut for Willie Mullins when scoring easily at Kilbeggan in May and is probably the main danger.

Willie McCreery, who has enjoyed a terrific flat campaign, can saddle Kick On Boss to land the Follow Fairyhouse On Twitter Maiden Hurdle.

Kick On Boss has either been very backward, or had training problems, and, as a seven-year-old, this will only be his third ever outing.

He did, however, make a fine start when easily winning a bumper at Gowran Park and was then second behind the smart Outlander at Naas in February.

In both his races to date, Kick On Boss was too keen for his own good and the booking of Barry Geraghty is a big plus.

Jessica Harrington’s team is in excellent shape right now and her Mr Fiftyone gets a hopeful nod in the fairyhouse.ie Maiden Hurdle.

He was far from neglected in the market when making a winning debut in a Gowran Park bumper 23 days ago, beating Shanahan’s Turn by half a length.

Shanahan’s Turn has disappointed in the meantime, but the credit side is that the fourth horse, Princess Leya, scored in a canter at Cork on Sunday.
