Lady can complete hat-trick
Joe Murphy’s filly won her maiden here in some style and then produced an even better display in a handicap at Tipperary five days ago.
The daughter of Oratorio loves to bowl along and was soon taken into the lead, from a bad draw, by Gary Carroll.
She proceeded to run her rivals ragged and, though only eventually beating At Boolavogue by three parts of a length, had the contest in safe keeping well before the judge was reached.
Granny On Fire, an impressive course and distance winner two outings back, was found out by a combination of 12 furlongs and testing conditions at Tramore last time and is the danger.
The Water Towers Chase, a decent contest of its type, can go to Pires, representing the in-form Tony Martin yard. Pires has plenty going for him, not least that he’s in receipt of 10lbs from some of the main dangers.
A reasonably flat track, a journey of around two miles and a decent surface are what play to the strengths of the selection.
He was a disappointing fifth in the handicap won by Ballyfinboy at Galway on his latest appearance, but the soft ground and uphill finish was always going to be a source of concern for him.
Timjoe, doing all his best work at the end of a mile and a half when second to Kims Dream at Roscommon last week, should again go close in the David Heneghan Memorial Handicap, with an extra two furlongs to travel and off a mark just 2lbs higher.
Experienced handicapper Ballyburke, runner-up behind Bruff at the Galway festival, has obvious prospects in the modest Ballinrobe On Course Vets Beginners Chase.
