Local star Montezuma takes Derby at Ballabuidhe

There was a highly popular winner of the featured Irish Examiner Derby at Ballabuidhe yesterday when local hope Montezuma got up in the shadow on the post for the Castle Racing Syndicate.

Ridden by Dungourney jockey Mike Keneally, Montezuma saw it out best to beat Bounce and Soprano.

Earlier Southern and National Champion Jockey Jack Kennedy opened the meeting in style on Tail to Tail for Newmarket trainer Aileen Daly.

Stephen Cummins and Jodie Townend rode their first career winners on Aoifes Pet and Minnie Mee, while Shane Bargary rode Just a Jigalo to win the finale for West Cork owner Kieran Murphy.
