Dual Derby-winner Camelot produced a workmanlike display to beat stable-companion and pacemaker Triumphant on his seasonal debut in the Group 3 High Chaparral Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh yesterday.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt, off the track since finishing unplaced in the Arc last October before undergoing colic surgery during the winter, triumphed under a confident ride by Joseph O’Brien, coming from last to first to beat Triumphant and market rival Parish Hall under hands and heels riding.

Predictably, the winning trainer expressed himself “delighted” by the display. “He had major colic surgery and you never know what will happen. But his class and speed are still there.”
