Paul Nicholls had to wait until the penultimate race of the whole meeting but Salubrious got the champion trainer off the mark at Cheltenham in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle.

Double Ross made a bold bid from the front in an effort to give Nigel Twiston-Davies another winner and despite being passed he rallied again for Adam Wedge before running on empty.
