A smart sort on his day, he began the current campaign with a very poor effort when a remote fifth of five finishers behind Sizing Europe at Gowran Park in early October. He was ridden from behind on that occasion, but 12 days later there was an amazing transformation in a Grade 3 at Punchestown.
This time Roi Du Mee made every yard of the running, staying on stoutly in the straight to slam Magnanimity to the tune of five lengths. The stewards, hardly surprisingly, inquired into the improvement in form and noted the explanation offered by Elliott.
Jimmy Mangan’s Quarryvale is rated the principal danger, having run well on her seasonal debut over flights on this track behind Robbie Hennessy’s Mossley.
She does have 13lbs to find with the selection at the weights, but is a real course specialist and has to be respected.
