Lucy can get off mark over fences

Tom Cooper’s Our Girl Lucy can get off the mark over fences in the Strandhill Mares’ Beginners Chase at Sligo this afternoon, should the meeting survive an 8.00am inspection.

Lucy can get off mark over fences

She was no more than a modest handicapper over hurdles, but could prove a fair bit better at this game.

The six-year-old started off in another chase confined to mares at Killarney in August and was no match for the classy Jacksonslady, who beat her by 16 lengths into second place.

What was encouraging about Our Girl Lucy’s performance, however, was her splendid jumping and she certainly meets nothing of Jacksonslady’s calibre now.

That said one of her main rivals now, Madame Mado, was a far more talented hurdler than the selection, but hasn’t been seen for 163 days and this is her first outing over fences.

Enda Bolger’s Arabella Boy is a hard horse to catch right, but has been found a good opportunity in the five-runner Martin Reilly Motors Hyundai I40 Chase.

He rounded off last season with a creditable enough effort over the banks at the Punchestown festival, half a length runner-up behind Outlaw Pete.
