Box clever with Scrapper

Six handicaps, on an eight-race programme, make Dundalk a most unattractive proposition from a punting point of view tonight.

Box clever with Scrapper

Ger Lyon’s Scrapper Blackwell is the nap choice in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Auction Maiden over six furlongs.

The Zamindar colt has been given the plum draw in one and is easily our best chance of reaping a dividend.

He made a promising enough start here last month, finishing fifth behind Eddie Lynam’s shock winner, Yulong Baoju, over this trip.

Then he returned to Dundalk track later in August and showed plenty of improvement on that initial outing.

Now running over five furlongs, Scrapper Blackwell was noted doing all his best work at the end when beaten a head into second by Aidan O’Brien’s Vinson Massif.

The form of that contest has been working out reasonably well and Lyons’ charge can only benefit from stepping back up in trip.

The other non-handicap, the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden, may fall to John Oxx’s Majestic Jasmine.

She made a decent start at Dundalk when fourth to the Ballydoyle hot-pot, Festive Cheer, and can be expected to come on for that.

Jessica Harrington’s Parramatta gets the nod in the Crowne Plaza Race And Stay Apprentice Handicap.

A useful enough sort in bumpers, she had the speed to win over seven furlongs at Laytown last time and, hopefully, will be equally effective at a mile and a half.
