Walsh plays waiting game with Seabass
The nine-year-old was sent off joint-favourite for the world’s most famous steeplechase in April having arrived at Aintree on the back of six wins under Rules.
The fragile gelding ran a superb race to pick up minor honours behind Neptune Collonges and Sunnyhillboy, with the trainer’s daughter and leading amateur Katie Walsh achieving the highest placing of any female rider in the history of the race.
Seabass is as short as 16-1 favourite with bet365 for next year’s National, but given the fact he has run just 15 times under Rules due to various leg problems, his trainer is not looking too far ahead.
“He’s back in work but there are no plans at this stage. I don’t think you’ll see him on the track until maybe mid-December,” said Walsh.
“We’ll just see how he is and he’ll tell me what to do. He’s got very little mileage on the track but he has fragile old legs, so we’ll just take things one day at a time with him.”
