Dawn the right approach

JIM BOLGER’S Dawn Approach can land a fascinating Listed Alfred Nobel Rochestown Stakes at Naas this afternoon.

He is unbeaten in two races so far and is the type of tough customer that this yard frequently produces.

The son of New Approach made his debut on soft ground at the Curragh in March and justified favouritism with a smooth one and three parts of a length defeat of Canary Row.

Dawn Approach then reappeared almost two months later, on this track in May, and was very impressive.

Again he beat Canary Row, successful at Tipperary previously, but this time the margin of victory was five and a half lengths.

Pedro The Great is an Aidan O’Brien-trained Henrythenavigator newcomer and his travels in the market will clearly be worth monitoring.

There are two English challengers and the best of them, and indeed the main danger, may well be Richard Hannon’s Mister Marc, who won nicely at the first time of asking at Goodwood.

Hannon’s Sky Lantern, successful on his debut, also at Goodwood, gets the nod in the Coolmore Stud EBF Sprint Stakes for fillies.
