It was a special run from a greyhound clearly at the peak of his powers and as a result he has been cut to 3-1 for outright success with the sponsors. In victory Jayfkay was completing a wonderful second round treble for Dolores Ruth which had been initiated the previous evening by Razldazl Rioga and Razldazl Bugatti.

Jayfkay was the star however. Sent to traps a 2-5 favourite for Heat 13 he absolutely rocketed from trap five and was clear a long way before the turn. Pulling further and further clear he eventually hit the line thirteen and a half lengths ahead of fellow Irish raider Droopys Jet in a magical 28.08, taking some nine spots off the previous best set in last year’s competition by Taylors Sky.

Judicial Ruling also scored for the Irish on Saturday night as he posted the second fastest time of the round with an imperious display of front running in Heat 11. Making all after a slick exit he never saw a rival as he came home almost five lengths clear of his main market rival, Young Sid in 28.19.

Barefoot Allstar was also expected to win for the Irish, but he found early traffic problems in Heat 14 and actually ran well to finish two and a quarter lengths second to Malbay Phanter in 28.68.

Peter Cronin had no luck with his remaining challengers. After Rockview Head failed to qualify on Friday night, his three runners on Saturday, Bombolini, Longrange Ivor and Whatsupjack all failed to qualify. So too did the Fraser Black trained Brae Boy.

On Friday there were four Irish winners. The aforementioned Razldazl Rioga (28.54) and Razldazl Bugatti (28.45) made all their respective heats, while Sean Muldoon’s Tinas Nova also made every into to win in 28.59.

There was an Irish 1-2 in Heat 3 as John McGee’s Ruthless Man saw off Pat Curtin’s Shelbourne Geoff by a length in 28.54. Ireland’s other representative, Tynwald Bolt, but he failed to figure in Heat 8.
