Quito favourite to make a winning return

Quito De La Roque is market leader to make up for lost time in thetote.com Punchestown Gold Cup on Wednesday.

Bookmakers Paddy Power make Colm Murphy’s charge a 7-2 chance for the Grade One chase after 16 horses were left in at the forfeit and supplementary stage.

Quito De La Roque has not been seen since being a beaten favourite when third to Synchronised in the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown in late December.

He had earlier lowered the colours of Sizing Europe in the JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal.

Robbie Hennessy has confirmed Rubi Light, who was ahead of Quito De La Roque in second place in the Lexus.

Follow The Plan could bid to repeat last year’s triumph on the back of his surprise victory in the Betfred Bowl at Aintree last week.

thetote.com Punchestown Gold Cup – Paddy Power bet: 7-2 Quito De La Roque, 4-1 Captain Chris, Quel Esprit, 5-1 Rubi Light, 6-1 First Lieutenant, 8-1 Follow The Plan, 16-1 Noble Prince, Realt Dubh, Quantativeeasing, 20-1 bar.

Meanwhile Sizing Europe remains on course for the Boylesports.com Champion Chase at Punchestown on Tuesday.

The 10-year-old was narrowly beaten by Finian’s Rainbow when defending his crown in a controversial Queen Mother Champion Chase at last month’s Cheltenham Festival.

The final fence had to be bypassed, which some say may have hindered Henry de Bromhead’s stable star.

Either way, the form looks rock solid with Finian’s Rainbow coming out and winning the Melling Chase at Aintree last week and De Bromhead is thrilled with him ahead of his latest assignment.

“He seems in good form. He worked this morning and worked well, he’s schooling well and everything seems good, so we’re aiming for Tuesday,” said De Bromhead.

“His form is pretty solid around Punchestown.”
