Easy success for Witness in winners of one

Kinsale-based trainer/breeder Finbarr Tierney seems to have a genuinely nice prospect on his hands in the form of Ardkilly Witness who had little difficulty in gaining a second career success in the winners of one at yesterday’s well-attended Cloyne Harriers point-to-point fixture which took place at Dromahane.

Easy success for Witness in winners of one

Ardkilly Witness (5/2) was always well-positioned and he moved on with Awbeg Massini from the penultimate of the 13 obstacles. The successful six-year-old, sporting the silks of Tierney’s daughter Aine, edged into a slight advantage at the final fence and he powered clear in the closing stages to defeat Awbeg Massini by one-length. Dr Patmassini meanwhile posted his best effort for quite some time by returning a further three lengths adrift in third spot.

“We will see how he comes out of this race, but he’s improving away the whole time and we will probably look at a hunters chase at Cork over Easter,” said Tierney who was attaining a third success of the season with his five-strong string.
