Kranky to be seen in her best light
The first round of the Beamish and Murphy's A2 gets underway a week later than intended but Kranky Ma can make up for lost time by taking the first heat. She’s a lady of real potential but it's fair to say that she was disappointing when behind one of these rivals, Twice Gifted, last time out. That wasn’t a true reflection of her ability and, if producing a similar break, she should not be caught this time.
Earlier in the year she was a very smart winner of the Consolation Puppy Oaks at Shelbourne Park and that level of performance stands out in this company. She is confidently expected to banish the memory of her latest defeat. The danger may come from Black Diver, who isn’t short of toe and would be a huge player if breaking on terms.
In the tenth race, the drop in trip is not totally in favour of Aghaburren River but he’s in great form and has such a good draw that he can overcome the inconvenience to land the spoils. Johnny Linehan’s dog last couple of wins came over 575 yards but the make-up of tonight’s race is such that it should play to his strengths. Belindas Lee looks a certain leader but if Aghaburren River can hold his position on the rails, he can slipstream the leader before pouncing late to score.
In the second semi-final of the Richard Neenan Memorial, Race On Angel can earn a deserved maiden success. Lorraine Moore's bitch showed plenty in defeat behind Dear Pa on her debut and she ran better than her time suggests when third in last weekend's opening round of this stake. There isn't a lot of early pace in this race and I would expect her to turn pretty close to the lead, before using her stamina to gain the day. Miss Roxanne, who could set the early fractions, rates the danger.
