Pocket the pick
The seven-year-old doesn’t have a lot of mileage on the clock and still has plenty of scope for improvement.
He took a modest maiden at Sligo in early August and then stepped up in class at Fairyhouse last month.
The selection was beaten three and a quarter lengths into second by Sizing Symphony and it was a further 14 lengths back to Minella Humour (levels), who renews rivalry.
The form looks smart, considering Sizing Symphony has since gone to Cheltenham and won impressively by seven lengths.
Best Served Cold, who landed a little touch when beating two well-fancied horses in Just For Joe and Laganbank at Galway, rates the biggest danger.
Tony Martin’s Buy Back Bob is the fancy in a competitive 60th Anniversary Of Racing At Wexford Maiden Hurdle.
The four-year-old has had two spins on the level of late and neither could be described as particularly promising. He did, however, make a very solid start over jumps at Cork in August — third to Rebel Fitz and Park Ranger. Hopefully, that is the Buy Back Bob which will strip today.
Henry de Bromhead has his charges in rude health right now and Fourth Class might be another for him in the Vinegar Hill Maiden Hurdle.
This will be his first outing since finishing third behind Betty Is A Lady and subsequent winner, He’s A Delight, at Gowran Park in March, but fitness will hardly be a worry.
Christy Roche’s Groody Hill is the interesting one in the M W Hickey Memorial Handicap Chase.
Backed from 14-1 to 9-2 at Punchestown five days ago, he did the business in style by five and a half lengths. Groody Hill now reappears under a mandatory 6lbs penalty, but goes up by 12lbs in the future.
