Trip to suit Dawariya
Successful twice over nine furlongs, the daughter of Selkirk clearly failed to stay the trip when finishing eighth in the mile-and-a-half Guinness Handicap, won by Clare Glen, at the Galway Festival.
But Dawariya had looked a progressive filly when winning her maiden at Ballinrobe, despite struggling on the tight track, and when landing a Leopardstown handicap off a mark of 83.
Raised 8lb. for her Leopardstown success, she started favourite for the Galway event, but, having held every chance starting up the hill, she faded to finish in mid-division. Racing tonight over a mile and a quarter, Dawariya should prove tough to beat on a track which her trainer visited for the first time in more than twenty years when Cape Of Good Grace triumphed at the last meeting.
Jim Bolger’s Tobar Na Gaoise, winner of a Leopardstown maiden on debut but no match for the selection’s stable-companion Dubawi Star on his handicap debut at Gowran Park, might give Dawariya most to do.
