Injury rules out Border for remainder of season
The dual Nunthorpe Stakes winner has a hairline fracture and will need plenty of box rest to recover.
However, it is possible the nine-year-old sprinter could continue his racing career next year.
āUnfortunately heās got a hairline fracture on his pelvis. He just needs box rest and heāll be out for the season,ā said trainer Robin Bastiman.
āIām going to see the owners and see what they want to do. I think heāll be all right to come back next year. I donāt see why not.
āAt least weāve found out what the problem was. There was something wrong when he ran at York last time as he kept changing his legs.
āYou donāt know about these things and whether it started off in the Temple Stakes.
āIām picking him up from Rainbow Equine Hospital in Malton on Saturday. The vets there checked him out, X-rayed him and when he had a scan they found this hairline fracture ā a hot spot as they call it.
āItās fixable. In some respects itās better being an hairline fracture than being a torn muscle. Bones mend better and strengthen up.
āHeās going to have six weeks box rest, then three months on a walker and away we go again.
āWeāll just take it stage by stage with him.
āIf we do get him going again next year, heāll have no penalties in these big sprint races. Weāll see, it will be up to the owners.ā
