Frankel set for Sussex

FRANKEL is still on course to put his reputation on the line against his elders in the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood later this month.

Trainer Henry Cecil reported the unbeaten 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes winner to be in fine shape.

He confirmed the Group One on July 27, when his likely rivals could include Richard Hannon’s Canford Cliffs, was the probable objective unless he himself suddenly had second thoughts.

“He’s in very good form at the moment, fingers crossed,” said Cecil.

Asked if the Sussex Stakes remained the colt’s next target, the trainer added: “That’s the idea at the moment, unless I get cold feet!

“I don’t think I’ll use a pacemaker because he’s settling very well at the moment.”
