Sandown next for Captain

CAPTAIN DUNNE is likely to have his next race at either Sandown or York after connections decided against a trip to Ireland this weekend.

Sandown next for Captain

Concerns over soft ground prompted connections of the Tim Easterby-trained sprinter to rule out the Woodies DIY Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh tomorrow.

The Epsom ‘Dash’ winner will now either go for the Group Three Coral Charge at Sandown on Saturday week, or the Listed John Smith’s City Wall Stakes at York in two weeks’ time.

“He’s not running in Ireland on Sunday – it’s too soft,” said Tim Palin, racing manager for owners Middleham ParkRacing.

“We’ve stuck him an entry in the Nunthorpe at York’s Ebor meeting in August.

“Next he might go for the City Wall Stakes, which has been moved from Chester to York in a couple of weeks.”
