Emiyna out to end Oxx’s 1,000 Guineas drought

Master trainer John Oxx has already established himself as a national treasure thanks to his feats with such as Sea The Stars, Alamshar, Sindaar and Azamour in recent years. Ahead of the weekend’s Guineas meeting, he is hopeful of another classic winner. Declan Colley reports.

Having blitzed flat racing’s greatest prizes with Sea The Stars just two short years ago, he assuredly accepts that a fallow period was due in the wake of that breathtaking season.

That is not to say, of course, that he likes it that way – far from it. He is simply realistic enough to know that a beast such as Sea The Stars is very much a once-in-a-lifetime gig. The old ‘you’ll never see his like again’ adage is something he’s gotten used to in the 32 years he has been training.
