Oxx’s progressive Emiyna earns a crack at Group company
A daughter of Maria’s Mon, fifth in a Leopardstown maiden on her only juvenile start, Emiyna was well-backed throughout the day and came from off the pace to beat the promising Aidan O’Brien-trained debutante Ballroom by a length.
Trainer John Oxx said of the Aga Khan-owned, Johnny Murtagh-ridden winner, “She’s a nice filly and has always shown plenty of speed at home. She’s bred to get further and Johnny says she’ll have no problem with a mile. She’ll go on most types of ground and should improve from tonight’s run. She’ll run in the Athasi Stakes next. That should tell us more about her.”
The new season’s leading rider Wayne Lordan got trainer David Wachman off the mark for the new campaign when Imperial Rome, winner of his maiden over course and distance last autumn, bolted up in the bookings@dundalkstadium.com Handicap.
Sent to the front soon after the two-furlong marker, the Holy Roman Emperor colt quickly stretched clear and ran on strongly to slam Crystal Belle by five lengths, to the delight of his trainer.
