Killultagh worth one more chance
It is now or never for Willie Mullins’ seven-year-old over fences and she will hardly be afforded a better opportunity.
The selection was a costly failure at Thurles two weeks ago, failing to justify odds of 4-6. She looked the most likely winner early in the straight, but was eventually run out it and beaten half a length by Kilflora.
There is no disputing that was a disappointing performance, but there are solid reasons for giving her one more chance.
That was Killultagh Queen’s first run for about two months and she is entitled to come on plenty for the outing.
Then the weakness of the opposition has to be factored into the equasion and if Emmet Mullins makes plenty of use of her then she can deliver.
John Queally’s lightly-raced Memories Of Milan gets the vote in the Powerstown Maiden Hurdle.
He ran with promise over flights when a remote seventh behind So Young at Leopardstown at Christmas, before moving into bumper company for the first time at Navan. Memories Of Milan ran a nice sort of race to finish four and a half lengths runner-up behind Lord Gale and, hopefully, can build on that effort.
Willie Mullins’ Rattan, beaten into second by Flemenstar at Navan, will be surely be popular in the first division of the Slievenamon Maiden Hurdle.
Preference, however, is for the frustrating Datokepe, rested since performing well below expectations at Thurles in November and who ends up getting 13lbs from Rattan, taking Bryan Cooper’s invaluable claim into consideration.
The second division may fall to Worldly Wise, another returning from a break, having chased home Belord at Limerick, also in November.
