Burke to step down

TOM BURKE is to retire as general manager at Leopardstown following the Irish Champion Stakes meeting on September 3 after serving the racing industry for more than 40 years.

Burke to step down

Burke joined the Racing Board in 1969 and became part-time Tipperary manager in 1983. He moved to Leopardstown in 1986 and acted as racing manager until 2006 when he became the general manager. He has also had a lengthy spell as part-time manager at Navan.

“I have really enjoyed what will shortly be 42 years working in the horse racing industry,” said Burke. “In that time I have experienced many of racing’s most memorable moments and more importantly struck up friendships that I will always cherish.”
