Tornedo Shay looks ready to blow opposition away

TORNEDO SHAY is the nap choice in the Listed EBF Irish Racing Writers’ Hurdle at Naas today.

Tornedo Shay looks ready to blow opposition away

He made no more than a satisfactory start over jumps at Gowran Park in November when beating Johnny McGeeney and Definite Class, two horses who haven’t exactly boosted the form in the meantime.

But Thomond O’Mara’s gelding can surely be depended on to build on that and it is well to remember is a triple bumper winner.

The progressive hat-trick seeking Ballyhaunis is the danger, having scored in fine style at Listowel and Thurles.

The exciting Royal De La Thinte, who produced an exhilarating round of jumping when scoring by ten lengths at Punchestown, has to be respected in the Grade 2 Woodlands Park 100 Club Novice Chase.

This three miles will take a lot of getting, however, and preference is for Colm Murphy’s Quito De La Roque.

He made a couple of crucial errors, before finishing with a flourish when three parts of a length second behind Bostons Angel in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown at Christmas.

You couldn’t possibly be dogmatic regarding the likely outcome of the Grade 3 Limestone Lad Hurdle, with the nod falling on John Kiely’s On The Way Out. He found two miles round Cork far too sharp when third to Sublimity and Newmill and this test is more his cup of tea.

Crash, who ran a bit too free for his own good when third to Aughaloor at Fairyhouse, should go close in the INH Stallion Owners’ EBF Maiden Hurdle.

Gordon Elliott’s Dantes King, a promising fourth behind Shot From The Hip over flights at Leopardstown, gets the vote in the Bumper.

At Fairyhouse tomorrow the frustrating Arabella Boy is given a final chance in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Beginners Chase. He clearly failed to stay three miles when beaten by shock winner, Slippers Percy, at Thurles. Taking a dramatic drop in trip and with cheekpieces fitted for the first time, Arabella Boy will surely stride on from the start now.

Our Girl Salley, who cruised to a three lengths defeat of Shop DJ at Leopardstown, can outclass her rivals on the way to completing a spectacular five-timer in the Tote Pick Six Mares’ Novice Hurdle.

Golden Silver, who couldn’t cope with Big Zeb at Leopardstown, has been handed a much easier assignment in the Tote Pick Six Normas Grove Chase and is hard to oppose.
