A talented hurdler, Torphichen made an excellent start over fences at Limerick and, hopefully, will now build on that in what is a hot contest.
He jumped for fun at Limerick, but was ultimately outclassed and beaten five and a half lengths into second by Quel Esprit.
The fact the third horse was a distance away is obviously encouraging and it is interesting that O’Grady now fits those aids to concentration - cheekpieces - on the selection.
The Kilsheelan Beginners chase is best left to Willie Mullins’ Definite Edge, who was a solid staying hurdler last season. He made his debut over fences at Punchestown and performed much better than his final placing, eighth to Thegreatjohnbrowne, would suggest.
Mullins’ Popcorn, beaten into second by Tom Hogan’s newcomer, Roger Beantown, at Thurles can land the Bumper.
The opening Powerstown Three Year Old Maiden Hurdle is best left to Mouse Morris’ Tillahow, who should have a decent future at this game.
Trained on the flat by Joe Murphy, he was last see when winning a 12 furlongs maiden at Leopardstown in July.
