Bank on Alderwood in Bumper

ONCE-RACED Alderwood is the nap choice to land the Bumper for Tom Mullins at Clonmel this afternoon.

Bank on Alderwood in Bumper

A son of the former champion hurdler Alderbrook, he went off favourite on his debut at Navan last month.

That was a 29-horse affair and Alderwood flattered when touching the front with over two furlongs to go.

He soon faded, however, to finish fourth behind the impressive John Kiely-trained Shuil Sheeran.

It was a good start all the same on the part of the selection, the form has been working out reasonably well, and this looks a much easier assignment.

Feature event is the Wilderness Chase, with the conditions of the contest greatly favouring Whatuthink.

Plagued by indifferent jumping in the past, he ran the race of his life in the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse to finish third behind Bluesea Cracker.

Partnered then by Patrick Mangan, it is interesting that the duo are now reunited. Hopefully, Whatuthink will produce a decent round of jumping and, that being the case, should prove hard to beat.

Down In Neworleans, third behind Ballyhaunis and subsequent winner, Gala Dancer, at Listowel, might prove best in the Cashel Maiden Hurdle.

Blazing Tempo, having a first outing for Willie Mullins and a first over fences, gets the nod in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Mares Beginners Chase.
