Thumbs up for Tramore

THE brand new racetrack at Tramore has been given the thumbs up by Irish Examiner columnist Ruby Walsh, as well as fellow jockeys Paul Townend and Andrew Lynch and champion trainer Willie Mullins.

Thumbs up for Tramore

Mullins is a director at Tramore, after he and his father, Paddy, bought a share many years ago, but he insisted yesterday that the new track would be a “Grade 1 flat track” and that the possibilities would be endless if funding could be secured to complete the development.

At present, there are separate flat, hurdle and chase tracks on the 183 acre site but no buildings have been constructed yet even though planning permission is in place for a grandstand with a capacity of 5,000 people, as well as four bars, five corporate boxes, and restaurant, as well as the other necessary amenities for racing.

Located on the edge of Tramore’s Back Strand, the track is just a couple of miles as the crow flies from the current facility and Mullins intends to use it to work his horses on a weekly basis, with the motorway guaranteeing easy access.

“Ruby, Paul and Andrew Lynch were down schooling a few of Henry de Bromhead’s last week and they were very happy with it” said Mullins yesterday. “We hope to get some of the flat lads down now to try it out because I think it’s a Grade 1 flat track to be honest.

“There is loads of space there and the tracks are 80 or 90m wide at their narrowest. They are flat all the way as well with no undulations. If we can get the money it will be a huge facility I think.”
