Storm forecast

BE MY STORM, who came back to her best at the Curragh last time, can land the nap in the Tote Jackpot Guarantee Maiden at Leopardstown tonight.

Prior to the Curragh, the selection went off a heavily backed favourite on this track in early May, but proved most disappointing, finishing a modest fourth behind John Oxx’s Troas.

Dermot Weld then gave her a decent break, before bringing Be My Storm back at headquarters towards the end of last month.

The daughter of Singspiel seemed in a far better frame of mind, only getting run out of it close home when beaten a neck by another of Oxx’s, Akzar.

Maverick Man has 4lbs in hand of Be My Storm, but is not one to be trusted and Weld’s filly can do the business, especially as she promises to be well suited to dropping down a furlong in trip, compared to the Curragh.

Oxx’s Smart Striking, blinkered for the first time, gets the vote in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Maiden.

It is no surprise the aids are fitted, because she managed to turn what looked to be certain victory into defeat when grabbed late by Skyway on this track last time.

Weld’s Atyaab is the obvious danger, but she looked an even weaker finisher than Smart Striking when third to Queen Andromache and Ice Empress at Navan.

Aidan O’Brien’s Quest for Gold is the choice in the mile and a half Avoca Maiden, although it is a trifle disconcerting that blinkers are being utilised by a yard who are never in any great rush to do so!

Nevertheless, the Sadler’s Wells colt ran more than respectably on his seasonal debut at the Curragh, third to Akzar and Be My Storm, and is the clear form choice.

Start The Party, beaten a length into fourth behind Bob Le Beau at the Curragh, can reverse the placings with a 4lbs pull in the Bulmers’ Original Handicap.
