Apt Approach looks poised to go one better

RUBY WALSH certainly looks the jockey to have on one’s side at Clonmel this afternoon.

Apt Approach looks poised to go one better

He teams up with Apt Approach in the Lisronagh Beginners Chase, for colts and geldings, and Willie Mullins’ six-year-old is hard to oppose.

Apt Approach made his debut over fences at Thurles last month and was a little unlucky not to get off the mark at the first time of asking.

He bowled along in front and was still holding the call when blundering badly at the final fence.

Swift Counsel took advantage of that howler to shoot seven lengths clear, but we can surely expect plenty of improvement to now be forthcoming from the selection.

Walsh and Mullins team up with Kempes, in the Kilsheelan Beginners Chase, and there’s no doubt the son of Intikhab is the best horse in the contest.

His second to Hurricane Fly at the Punchestown Festival and success in a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse speak for themselves, in the context of this contest.

He wasn’t a great jumper of hurdles however so, hopefully, Kempes will treat these obstacles with more respect.

A third Walsh possibility is Seabass, trained by his father, Ted, in the Irish Racing Yearbook Handicap Chase.

A lowly rating of 90 tells us he’s no great shakes, but Seabass did perform with promise, following a long break, when fifth to Mighty Bob at Naas two weeks ago.

For Bill is the nap choice to make a winning debut over flights in the Irish Stalllion Farms’ EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle.

There shouldn’t be any concerns regarding the ability of this triple bumper winner to jump, considering she also has two point-to-point victories to her credit.

Southampton, runner-up behind Action Master at Punchestown, could give Christy Roche a welcome turn in the Powerstown three-year-old Maiden Hurdle.
