Ground key to Futurity hopefuls
The son of Azamour was sent off a warm order for his racecourse introduction at Tipperary and despite being left at the start, quickened smartly to score in decisive fashion.
Fozzy Stack, son and assistant to trainer Tommy, would not like to see conditions become too testing for this weekend’s Group Two contest
“It’s ground dependant whether he will run and the forecast is a bit of a mixed bag for the week, so we’ll see what happens. He wouldn’t want the ground too soft,” said Stack.
“We were delighted with his first run and he did it well considering the ground he lost at the start.
“He was very green, but hopefully he has stepped up a bit since then as he’ll need to have for a race like this.
“He’s a nice horse and I don’t think it was the strongest maiden in the world he won the last day, but he did well to win it all things being considered.”
Another under consideration for the seven-furlong event is Andrew Oliver’s In Some Respect, although he has an alternative engagement in the Tattersalls Ireland Sale Stakes on the same card.
The two-year-old was not beaten far into fourth in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on his latest outing and his trainer is looking forward to the weekend.
“He’s been grand since the Curragh and we’re going to make a decision later in the week which way we’re going to go with him,” said the County Tyrone handler.
“The ground just sunk him in the Phoenix Stakes as he just couldn’t get out of it. It was a bit disappointing not to be in the first three as on form he should have been bang there.
“It’s a bit of a mixed forecast for this week, so we’ll just have to see what happens with the weather.”
