HRI reveal drop in attendance and betting at Galway Festival
HRI chiefs last night revealed hefty drops in attendance and betting at the Galway Festival, the traditional highlight of the summer season. Though not unexpected, the figures made glum reading. The overall attendance of the week long event at Ballybrit was 143,141 down 31,380 (18%) on the 174,521 who came through the turnstiles last year.
The Tote also took a battering and recorded a drop of €1,530,623 (21%) from €7,398,393 in the pre recession days of 2008 to €5,867,770 in the week gone by.
