Doctor delivers for Stoute
Stoute was already the current leading trainer with six victories to his name, and he brought up the septet as last year’s Derby fourth avoided trouble in running to score by a neck.
Ryan Moore steered his way through and kept clear of the scrimmaging in behind aboard the 8-1 winner, with the long-time leader Schiaparelli wandering across the track through the final furlong and interfering with Alwaary before finishing second.
Those placings were reversed following the contact, while fourth across the line, Enroller, was demoted to sixth meaning Indian Days and All The Aces were placed fourth and fifth respectively.
The Khalid Abduallah-owned Doctor Fremantle had disappointed when well fancied for the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, but showed much more of his old zest to come with a sustained challenge and take his tally for the season to two wins from three starts.
Stoute said: “I don’t know what happened in the Hardwicke. We thought he was one of our best chances at Royal Ascot, but that ended up being a funny race.
“He’s run three times for us this season and has won a Group Three and a Group Two and he’s a horse we’ve always been keen on.
“We will have to think hard about where he goes as he is also effective over a mile and a quarter.
“I think the King George is doubtful as he would be having a few races in a short space of time.
“He is in the Juddmonte International at York and is well entered up, and we also have Spanish Moon to run too.”
Moore added: “I wanted to be a bit handier on him but he just has a habit of sitting in the stalls a bit and missed the kick.
“We got a nice lead though and I followed Duncan, who I thought was the horse to beat, and that just kept him interested and he settled nicely.
“When he was in front he was probably only doing enough. He’s won two Group Threes already and run well in two Group Ones, this is about what he is.”
