Misheer secures Hinton honours
Back in 1992, Brittain’s Sayyedati triumphed in the Group Two race before collecting the Moyglare Stud Stakes, the 1000 Guineas and a couple of other Group Ones and his latest star is bound for the same path.
The 74-year-old has another smart juvenile in Jira to follow the route of his great Pebbles, the first British horse to win a Breeders’ Cup race, as she will now head for the Lowther and Cheveley Park.
Misheer (7-2) had been the only one to give the crack American Jealous Again a trace of competition when she finished second in the Queen Mary Stakes and following this smooth three-and-a-quarter-length dismissal of Albany winner Habaayib, Brittain revealed she might have been even closer at Royal Ascot.
“She had a sore back before Ascot and I spent four days massaging her, which meant I couldn’t get the work into her,” he said, after breaking into one of his trademark jigs.
“I knew we had three or four lengths in hand and she has proved it today.
“She’s tiny with a big heart. She has shown for some time she is quite useful - she has such a great temperament and cruising speed – and I think she is as good a filly as I’ve trained for a long time.”
Guineas sponsors Stan James offer 16-1 about Misheer repeating Pebbles and Sayyedati’s victories in the 1000 Guineas next year.
Brittain continued: “The filly will tell us where she goes. Today’s the day and tomorrow you can be disappointed.
“I’d like to go to the Moyglare now as I am certain she will stay and there are other aces in the hole like Jira.
“This one has got the same class as Sayyedati and she’s exactly the same weight as Pebbles. Pebbles was bigger, but they both weighed 408 kilograms.”
Neil Callan tracked close to Raddy ’ell Pauline and Capercaillie, pulling clear at the furlong pole and looking in command from thereon despite the best efforts of Habaayib.
Callan added: “That was very impressive. I knew she was a classy filly the first time I sat on her, but she’s done nothing but improve. She’s not very big but she’s got a big heart.
“When she won over five she showed good speed, she’s very professional”.
