Gold can glitter
She made a good start when winning easily first time out at Leopardstown and was then the medium of strong market support at Naas last month.
The selection, however, caught a real tartar in the shape of Aidan O’Brien’s newcomer, Steinbeck, going under by two and a half lengths. Gold Bubbles was attempting to concede that colt a pound, though, and time may well reveal the difficulty of such a task!
O’Brien’s once-raced Cabaret, a daughter of Galileo, looks best in the Kildare Village EBF Fillies Maiden.
She made her debut at Leopardstown 15 days ago and was given a wide berth by most punters, drifting from 9-4 out to 3-1. Despite the apparent lack of confidence, Cabaret performed with a lot of promise to finish second behind fellow newcomer, Kevin Prendergast’s Termagant.
O’Brien can also take the Kildare Village Maiden with seasonal debutant, Von Jawlensky. He only hinted at having ability in two runs as a juvenile, finishing with a remote third behind stable companion, Byzantine, at Gowran Park.
It is important to note that in both his outings, he was regarded as the Ballydoyle number two and that is not the scenario now.
The opening Kildare Village EBF Maiden for colts and geldings is going to be fascinating, bringing together some choicely bred types.
Aidan O’Brien’s Viscount Nelson, by Giant’s Causeway out of Imagine, is of obvious interest, but the nap vote falls on John Oxx’s Keraloun. He is by Dalakhani and reportedly well above average!
Middle Persia, who has been crying out for a mile on a quick surface, mightn’t be too far away in the Silken Thomas Handicap.
