Yeats set for Vintage hat-trick
Very much a veteran at eight years-of-age now, his whole season will revolve around trying to win the Ascot Gold Cup for a fourth time.
We can be pretty certain then Yeats will be far from wound up for this test, but such considerations have not prevented him from winning the race for the last two years. The brilliant son of Sadler’s Wells is the best stayer in these islands and, while aware he may well be vulnerable now, still has to get the vote.
Dermot Weld’s Le Cadre Noir is the nap choice to land the Listed Navan Sprint Stakes over six furlongs.
He returned to action at Naas a week ago to finish half a length and three parts third behind English invaders, Inxile and Reverance, over five furlongs, and this is a more suitable trip.
David Wachman’s Call Me Alice has to be a confident selection to win the Rotary Club Of Navan Maiden. She returns to this company, having finished a creditable fourth behind An Tadh in a better race at Dundalk on her reappearance.
At Kilbeggan this evening, Willie Mullins’ Layde Back can land the nap in the Kinnegad Maiden Hurdle.
He was well backed to make a winning debut in a bumper at Thurles in December and duly obliged. The selection then went to Thurles in January, for his first start over flights, but ran no sort of race to finish a remote fifth behind Inistioge.
Layde Back was, however, found to be lame afterwards and is fancied to set the record straight, in a weak contest.
Moonlight Sapphire looks best in the Kilbeggan Maiden Hurdle. Runner-up behind Maid Of Malabar at Cork, she may prove too good for Tony Martin’s Honour The World.
