Back to basics for The Listener

THE LISTENER is going to have a session with respected horse trainer Yogi Breisner today ahead of his third successive appearance in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown on February 8.

Back to basics for The Listener

It is back to basics for the grey following his fall at the second fence in the Lexus Chase at the same track last month.

“He’s in good order and he’s going to Yogi’s tomorrow,” said trainer Nick Mitchell.

“We’re going to go up there and give him a session. If he has a good one he’ll come straight back, otherwise he’ll stay for a couple of days.

“It will be up to Yogi, he’ll tell me what he wants to do with him. Then it will be straight to the Hennessy.”

It will be the second time Breisner’s expertise has been used to help The Listener, who was formerly trained by Robert Alner.

There will be a change of jockey for The Listener in the Hennessy, in which he was second in 2007 as well as being successful last year when partnered by Daryl Jacob.

“Andrew McNamara is going to ride him in the Hennessy and he’s coming over to school him in a couple of weeks,” added Mitchell.
