Captain set for Lexus bid
Following a winless streak stretching back over two years, the son of Alderbrook scored with any amount in hand on his seasonal reappearance at Clonmel in October.
He then ran out a cosy winner of the Grade Two Clonmel Oil Chase and while Taaffe admits he needs to step up again at Christmas, he feels Glenfinn Captain deserves to take his chance in the Grade One contest.
“I think he’ll probably run in the Lexus at Christmas time, all being well, and I’m very happy with him,” said the trainer yesterday.
“He seems to be going the right way and obviously he is going to have to improve again in the Lexus, but we will see how we go.”
Meanwhile Taaffe has snapped up the services of champion jockey Tony McCoy to ride leading hope Finger Onthe Pulse in the Boylesports.com Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Saturday.
The seven-year-old ran out an impressive winner on his seasonal reappearance at Limerick back in October and chased home subsequent John Durkan scorer Noland on his latest outing at Down Royal.
