Limited options for Ollie Magern
The 10-year-old was bidding for a third victory in the Grade Two contest, having scored 12 months ago and in 2005, but could only finish a length behind State Of Play this time around.
There was no disgrace in that effort as he was conceding 10lb to the winner, but Twiston-Davies believes that he is going to be a very difficult horse to place from now on this season.
“It is obviously a little disappointing that he was beaten but he was giving an awful lot of weight away to the winner and, to be honest, he probably ran the race of his life,” said the Naunton handler.
“He has come out of the race fine, but there are not going to be a lot of races for him now as he will be handicapped out of most things.
“We will have to be looking at the Betfair Chase at Haydock and that sort of thing, I would expect.”
