Inca lined up for Morgiana raid

FORMER Champion Hurdle winner Brave Inca will head straight to the Morgiana Hurdle next month as the 10-year-old prepares to return from a 19-month absence.

Colm Murphy’s stable star has not been seen in racecourse action since the 2007 Punchestown Festival due to injury.

“It’s more than likely that we will now have him out for the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown,” said Murphy. “We were hoping to run him before that but that isn’t going to happen now so we will start him off back in this race as we have done in the past.

“He seems very good and I’m very happy with him at home.

“As far as jockeys go, I would say it will have to be a case of taking each race as it comes.”

Murphy meanwhile hopes to have his smart bumper performer Zaarito back on the track within the next fortnight to embark on a novice hurdling campaign.

The six-year-old was unbeaten on his first three starts and was sent off favourite for the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival.

Although he failed to come home in front, Murphy was still delighted with his third-placed effort and has been delighted with his recent schooling.

“Hopefully we will have him out in the next two weeks. We had him ready to run a while ago but unfortunately he banged his knee schooling and that just held us up for a couple of weeks, but he is almost ready again now,” said Murphy.

“We couldn’t have been any happier with him at Cheltenham really and he schools well so, with a bit of luck, we should have another very good year with him.

“He is a good-actioned horse and we always thought he would like a bit of nice ground until we ran him on heavy at Naas and he did it really well. I would say the ground won’t make too much difference to be honest.”
