Heffernan hoping to strike again
Having already won the Irish 1000 Guineas on Halfway To Heaven and the Irish Derby on Frozen Fire for Aidan O’Brien, Heffernan has landed the ride on the David Wachman-trained Again.
He has picked up the mount as Johnny Murtagh, who partnered the Michael Tabor-owned filly to victory in the Group Two Debutante Stakes at Leopardstown two weeks ago, is serving a suspension.
“I’m happy to be on her. She was impressive the last day when she won a Group race and I’m looking forward to the ride,” said Heffernan.
“I’ve spoken to Johnny Murtagh who said she was an easy ride. It was heavy ground that day and she handled the conditions very well.
“If she puts up the same sort of performance, she looks the one t hey have to beat so I’d be quietly confident. I see that she’s down as favourite.”
Cashmans make Again their 13-8 market leader with Shimah next best at 9-4.
Her trainer Kevin Prendergast has been impressed with Again and admits his charge will have to be at her best to plunder the valuable prize.
“Again was very impressive at Leopardstown last time and the third home that day (Rare Ransom) won her maiden by seven lengths, so there are no pushovers in these races,” Prendergast told At The Races.
“My filly has done everything right and she is settled, which should help her get the trip.”
However, the County Kildare-based handler still hopes the daughter of Storm Cat can preserve her unbeaten record in the seven-furlong event.
An impressive winner on her debut, she took the step up to Listed company in her stride on her latest outing.
“She won her maiden very easily and won a Listed contest quite well last time so we are looking forward to it,” said Prendergast.
“She was supposed to run in the Phoenix Stakes last month but the ground was very firm and we decided not to risk it.
“She is bred to get this seven furlongs but not a lot further.”
