Profound the pick
Dermot Weld’s filly struck form with a vengeance at the Curragh last time and, hopefully, will step up again on that performance.
She had 9-13 to carry in a Premier handicap, but attracted plenty of support in the market and won in fine style.
The four-year-old cruised through the contest, before quickening away two furlongs down to beat The Last Hurrah (rec. 22lbs) by three lengths.
David Wachman can continue his excellent run by saddling Chintz to take the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes. Successful first time out on this track, Chintz then stepped up in class to cross-swords with the smart Shimah at the Curragh.
Predictably, Shimah had far too much speed for her rival, scoring by three lengths. But Chintz stuck to her task and should be nicely suited by an extra furlong now.
There are some particularly interesting contenders, with Galway in mind, in the Europe Hotel and Resort Maiden at Killarney this evening. The vote falls on the versatile Jessica Harrington-trained Dreamy Gent, who has already scored over hurdles and fences.
His last outing on the level was encouraging, third behind Rinroe and Shirley Casper at the Curragh, and he comes here on the back of an 18 lengths win in a beginners chase at Ballinrobe.
The Mike Cronin Readymix Ltd Handicap Hurdle looks best left to another versatile sort in Tony Martin’s Green Mile. Beaten over fences by Some Craic at Listowel on his latest appearance, he would have won comfortably, but for getting it all wrong at the final fence.
