Progressive Toirneach favoured by conditions

JIM BOLGER and Kevin Manning are fancied to continue what is rapidly developing into a terrific campaign by combining to land the Go Racing In Kildare Race with Toirneach at Naas tonight.

Progressive Toirneach favoured by conditions

The lightly-raced daughter of Thunder Gulch is progressive and very much favoured by the conditions of the contest.

The selection has a minimum of 8lbs in hand of the opposition and, if running close to her best, should oblige.

Toirneach arrives on the back of a decent effort at Navan last time. Held up in rear for much of the journey, she quickened nicely in the closing stages to beat hot-pot, Raydiya, an easy two lengths.

Manning also has possibilities aboard in-form Jim Gorman's Redera in the Irish Stallion Farms' EBF Auction Maiden.

Fourth behind the useful Blas Ceoil on his debut on this track, Redera showed improvement at Cork subsequently when two and a half lengths second behind What's Up Pussycat.

Plenty of Dermot Weld's horses are still not firing, but his Second Glanced looks capable of landing the Summer BBQ Fillies Maiden.

She made an encouraging start at Leopardstown back in early April when third to Beach Bunny and Sail, form which has been well advertised in the meantime.

The three-year-old wasn't seen again, however, until reappearing some two and a half months later at Leopardstown last week.

Odds-on in the morning, she eventually proved easy to back and was returned at 9-4. Second Glance proceeded to run a perfectly good race, beaten a length and three parts by Zorija Rose.

The fact she is turned out again so quickly is an obvious plus and Weld's charge is now likely to prove hard to beat.

Riding arrangements would indicate that Great Barrier Reef is unlikely to meet his engagement in the Thoroughbred County Maiden.

He would have started a very cramped price and, in his expected absence, this moderate heat may fall to The Emperor Nero, who only gave best to Epic Odyssey at the Curragh.
