Daasij poised to get Boff mark
The bare evidence of finishing eighth of 17 first time up at Leopardstown is hardly a ringing endorsement of his prospects now, but that doesn’t tell the full story.
The Leopardstown race was won by well-regarded Winchester, a Dermot Weld-trained stable companion of the selection.
Winchester landed a decent gamble and it seems reasonably safe to assume that Daasij was far from fully wound up for his debut.
In any case the contest has been working out quite nicely. Runner-up Moonstone wasn’t disgraced at York last week and Always Beautiful (fourth), Aather (sixth) and Kilshanning (ninth) have all won in the meantime.
Add in the fact Daasij is entitled to come on a bundle, will relish stepping up an extra two furlongs in trip, and it isn’t overly difficult envisaging him taking all the beating now.
Another having only a second outing, Ebalista, gets the vote in the Come Racing In Roscommon Fillies Maiden.
The daughter of Selkirk only performed with a degree of promise when beaten 11 lengths by Adored at Gowran Park earlier in the month.
But the ground was very testing then and she will surely be far better suited by what promises to be a much livelier surface.
Ebalista should come on plenty and the form of the Gowran heat got a big boost when Adored won a Group 3 at Naas last week.
Jubilant Note, who has shown a liking for the track in the past, may shrug off top weight in the Sherry Fitzgerald P Burke Handicap Chase.
He warmed up for this with a solid effort when sixth behind Northern Alliance over flights at Killarney eight days ago.
