Top Notch team consider their Aintree options
The nine-year-old has entries in the totesport Bowl, in which he would likely come up against Kauto Star, and the totepool Handicap Chase next Friday.
“I’ll wait a little bit before deciding, but more importantly we are happy with the horse,” Fitzgerald said of his recent Fairyhouse winner. “It was just like a little school around at Fairyhouse the other day which was a big surprise to us.
“He wasn’t right before the Hennessy, in hindsight he shouldn’t have run as he had a recurrence of an abscess in his foot and he wasn’t back long before the race.
“He was laid up after it and he wasn’t right and he didn’t gallop to the line - he still wasn’t beaten far though (six lengths).
“Kauto Star is there to be shot at but we only ran in the Hennessy to see how good we are, I was very happy afterwards with how things worked out.
“We should be running in the handicap off 154 but I’ve never had him like I have him now, he’s in serious order and if we were ever going to have a stab at those good horses – maybe he will run in the Bowl.
“We are definitely going and I just hope it gets a few showers to keep it on the slow side of good.
“More than likely he will run in the Bowl, but I just haven’t made my mind up yet.
“I’ve booked Barry Geraghty to ride. It was between him and Denis O’Regan but Denis will probably be riding for Howard Johnson in the big races next year and Barry was available.”
