Denman delivers in a perfectly adequate style

DENMAN produced a perfectly adequate performance to land the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown yesterday, but one was left with the distinct impression he still has a way to go to be spoken about in the same breath as his celebrated stable companion, the brilliant Kauto Star.

Bookmakers, however, were obviously impressed, because there was little lengthening in the odds of the imposing Paul Nicholls trained gelding for the Gold Cup. Cashmans kept him at 2-1, behind 6-4 shot Kauto Star, and that’s his price as well with Ladbrokes and Grahams.

William Hill were more impressed, tightening Denman to 15-8 from 2-1, although Boylesports took the view they should ease him to 9-4 from 2-1.
