Stick with Scotsirish
The Carlow handler’s Scotsirish gets the nap in the www.thurlesraces.ie Beginners Chase. A former useful novice hurdler, he made a solid start over fences at Galway last month and has plenty going for him now.
At Galway he took one or two risks along the way, but his jumping was essentially impressive and, hopefully, he will build on that.
Scotsirish was eventually beaten four and a half lengtns into second by Be My Leader on ground that was particularly testing.
The forecast surface for today is yielding and if that proves reasonably accurate then the six-year-old will be hard to beat, especially dropping down half a mile in trip.
Mullins’ Cuchulains Son rates a good wager to land the INH Stallion Owners’ EBF Novice Hurdle. After disappointing first time up over flights at Punchestown, he subsequently returned to that track to make no mistake.
The selection beat the enigmatic Mick The Man and the unlucky-in-running Rathmore Castle and that gives him a definite edge against this opposition.
Our Matti, another Mullins inmate, is the choice in the Bumper. He was having only his second outing when beaten a short head by Nollaig at Clonmel and Nollaig didn’t let the form down when runner-up behind Whatuthink over flights at Cork on Sunday.
A fourth Mullins possibility is Royal Heritage, admittedly not to be totally trusted, in the Clonoulty Hurdle.
The Carroll House gelding was returning from a long break when two and a half lengths second to Rinroe at Galway and a repeat of that would certainly be sufficient.
